Landis+Gyr Confirms Compatibility of Gridstream Advanced Metering Solution

This enables utilities to use Vecima’s WiMAX solution for wide-area-network communications with the Gridstream advanced metering and distribution automation networks. Wide area networks are used to transport information between Gridstream data collectors and head-end servers located at the utility or Landis+Gyr’s data center. The scope of traditional advanced metering initiatives have expanded to include electric vehicle pilots, distributed generation integration, home area networking devices, smart metering solutions, and a host of advanced grid operations. Landis+Gyr continues to deliver innovative end-to-end communications solutions to the industry and the integration with WiMax represents the next step of delivering a multi-technology network to our clients.

“We confirmed the ability to reliably communicate with a Gridstream collector and advanced meter using Vecima’s WiMAX network as a backhaul connection,” said Gina Garner, Director, Gridstream RF Platform. “Gridstream customers will be able to consider WiMAX as another technology we support for connecting their smart grid network to the utility’s core infrastructure.”

“Vecima welcomes the opportunity to work closely with Landis+Gyr and is excited about the leading edge smart metering solutions that this partnership will bring to the utility marketplace,” said Robert Forget, AVP of Product Management at Vecima.

Vecima Networks has been granted use of the 1.8 GHz spectrum by Industry Canada for utility applications, such as smart grid communications. It currently markets network communications capabilities throughout North America.
